Divorces Around the Country - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 539 Downloads: 10 Date added: 2019/06/14 Category Psychology Essay Level High school Tags: Divorce Essay Did you like this example? If you have gone to a wedding, you might have heard the wedding couple say the phrase till death do us part in the vows. After most newlyweds say I Do, most of them try to work as hard as they can to keep their vows. Some married people decide that it is better for them to get a divorce. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Divorces Around the Country" essay for you Create order Divorce is something that isnt really talked about, but it happens all around the world. Divorce can be a stressful, arduous, and a time-consuming period in someones life. I will be talking about the divorce rates of Canada, Spain, and Pakistan and what factors cause the divorce. In Pakistan, the average age for women to be able to marry is sometime before they reach the age of eighteen and the age for men to be able to marry is eighteen. The education level for the people who marry in Pakistan is very low, since they marry so young and most end up quitting school (Toppa, 2017). Arranged marriage in Pakistan is common. I believe that arranged marriage is one of the top reasons for divorce in Pakistan. In the Islam religion, which is what most people in Pakistan practice, marriage is sacred. The married couple are to not divorce but work it out and make the marriage work (Naveed, 2016). The divorce rate of Canada is forty-eight percent (Feldstein 2016). In Canada the average age for marriage is between the ages of twenty-nine to thirty-one. Anyone in Canada is free to marry whomever they want but being married to more than one person is not legal (Eichler 2012). The highest percentage of divorces in Canada were people that were aged between fifty-five and fifty-nine (Feldstein 2016). Some reasons for people divorcing in Canada were that they no longer are in love with the person that they married, someone in the marriage was cheating, there were financial problems, and abuse was happening in the marriage (Feldstein 2016). Canadas education level is high, fifty-six percent of adults had gone through some kind of higher education after graduating from high school (Hess 2018). The divorce rate of Spain is sixty-three percent (Abayomi 2018). The people of Spain are known for being catholic, but it since has changed. The divorce rate has risen since Spain passed an express divorce bill in 2005, which allows divorces to go through quicker (Stowe 2008). If I were a counselor, I would let the couples know that the best way to avoid divorce is to think about the wedding day and the vows that the couple said after a fight has abrupted. Do not go to bed angry and try to work out whatever is going on, if possible. I would tell the couple to think about all the good times and how happy they once were. Many factors can cause divorce, so doing this may not help. The best way to deal with divorce is to remain civil. When abuse is involved I wouldnt advise the abused to try to solve the marriage, especially when the abuse has happened more than once. Divorce is something that isnt easy, and I would like to help couples know that they should do what is in their best interest and the interest of their kids if they have any.

Between 1992 and 1996, annual revenues had increased more than 650%, climbing to almost $700 million (Exhibit 5).5 Most of this increase had been driven by the swift proliferation of company-owned stores, with the rest of it coming from two thriving divisions—mail order, and specialty sales, which sold coffee to restaurants and other institutional purchasers. A Dolls House Use Of Language Essay Example For Students

A Dolls House Use Of Language Essay A dolls House has alot of qualities about it which most plays often dont have. The sub-text within the play is really intense because characters say one thing yet mean another. This mainly happens with Noras character as she has alot going on that she doesnt want her husband to know about. Mainly where alot of sub-text is used is at the beginning of act two with Anne-Marie and Nora where they start talking about the fancy dress party and about Noras dress I wish Id torn it to pieces. What Nora could mean here is not that shed torn the dress to pieces but that she wishes she could tear her life to pieces to start a whole new one without mistakes. The whole conversation between Anne-Marie and Nora consists of sub-text like when Anne-Marie starts talking about her own daughter. No, No. She wrote to me, when she was confirmed, and when she got married. The audience can see from that sentence alone that Anne-Marie feels lonely because her only child has getting in contact with her twice to tell Anne-Marie of her confirmation and marriage yet, she hasnt let her know if Anne-Marie is a grandma or nanna. Anne-Marie could be thinking I gave her up I cant expect anymore from her but it would be nice to hear from her now and again just so I know how she is doing. Yet Anne-Maries thoughts are portrayed through other written words. Like when Nora asks Are the children alright? Nora could be thinking why am I asking Anne-Marie they are my children not hers I should know how they are. A Dolls House is a very emotional drama classic and many audiences are touched by the words and speeches of the characters. The imagery within the play all reverts to nature Torvald calls Nora after nature, i. e. a squirrel which is quite ironic, the way Nora is treat is like a father lion protecting his cub. The imagery gives the play its own reality and meaning it also backs up the way each character behaves. The only person whose rhythm of speech changes is Noras and that is because she speaks in quite a childish playful way towards Torvald whereas to every-one else she is quite formal and grown-up as long as Torvald isnt around. Both Torvald and Nora use natural and unnatural speech patterns. This is because when both Nora and Torvald are speaking to each other, Nora is quite immature and childish and Torvald simplifies his words because he thinks Nora cant understand proper language. Whereas when they arent near each other Noras language is actually formal and sophisticated with excellent vocabulary i. e. impertinent instead of rude and, Torvalds language is formal and business like. Dr. Rank also uses an unnatural speech pattern at one point within the flirtatious scene between him and Nora. Both Dr. Rank and Nora use short sentences and shorten their words What other delights am I to see? Fiddlededee you dont. In their scene together they both act like a couple of smitten teenagers but, Dr. Rank sees Nora as more than a friend where as Nora has other ideas. All she wants is to lend money so she acts in this way to see if itll get her what she needs but it backfires when Dr. Ranks confesses how he truly feels about her. There is alot of metaphors and symbolisms within this play because most of the time up until the end Torvald compares Nora to a little squirrel/skylark/songbird. These are all pet names of Torvalds for Nora that emphasize that he doesnt see Nora as an equal. .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 , .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 .postImageUrl , .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 , .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2:hover , .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2:visited , .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2:active { border:0!important; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2:active , .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2 .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u408f31a2826aec4e6da02c63e43ec7d2:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: "Porphyria's Lover" and "Lord Walter's Wife" EssayTorvald believes Noras role is to amuse and delight him. But ironically squirrels, songbirds and skylarks are all wild animals that dont belong in a cage. In Act three Dr. Rank has two different conversations by saying certain things its like a code. It is because Dr. Rank is trying to protect Torvald from the awful truths he bears. Dr. Rank says he will attend the next fancy dress party but he will be invisible. This is a way of saying that he will be dead. Even though this is like a metaphor it can also be classed as dramatic irony as the audience knows more than a character in this case Torvald. The main symbols of this play are Nora being compared to birds you can see a bird flying free yet you see Nora trapped. You can also see the temperament between Krogstad and Nora as they are both trying to protect themselves. At the start of the play all the sentence lengths are similar but by the end they vary into short monologues and conclusions of the character. At the beginning of the play we meet Nora a puppet needing a puppet master. Nora is a fully grown married woman but, throughout the play acts as a child. Noras rhythm of speech is very childish in front of her husband Torvald. Oh Torvald, songbirds, squirrels, you how we spend and spend. However, in front of Dr. Rank it changes to a very grown-up tone one which a woman would use. Scientific work, Dr Rank? Investigation? Noras tone changes because of her relationships with different people within the play, she acts as a child in front of Torvald because their relationship is built on lust and physical attraction rather than love however, Nora doesnt realise it till the end of the play where, she eventually finds the courage to leave. When Nora is around Anne-Marie her tone yet again changes to a very kindly humble grown-up tone. This is because Nora has been brought up by Anne-Marie she is like her second mother. Dear old Anne-Marie. You were such a good mother to me when I was little. I realised that Nora respects Anne-Marie alot through the practical work that I did in class. Also that there is alot of thought tracking when Nora speaks as what she says isnt what she always means. Never mind that Are the children alright? this is when Nora is speaking to Anne-Marie at the start of act two, and even though she is asking if her children are alright. She could be thinking why am I asking her they arent her children they are mine. I should know but, I dont why dont I know? What Nora says and what she means to say are two completely different things. Mrs Linde is Noras friend and has known her since their school years together. Mrs Linde and Nora both speak kindly towards each other in a very friendly manner, but Nora lets her childish boastful self take over in the beginning. Completely alone. That must be awful. Ive got three beautiful children. They arent here now; theyre out with the nanny. But tell me everything. Noras language grows through the play and she begins to become more selfless every time Mrs Linde is introduced. When Nora talks to Krogstad though, her use of language becomes very professional and mature. If youre impertinent about my husband, you can leave my house. I think that the reason she talks to him in this manner is because mainly she is afraid of the damage he will cause if Torvald finds out but, also because she genuinely knows that her childish self wont get her anywhere in this situation. We learn that throughout the play Nora grows to become an individual and stand on her own, without needing a puppet master to support her. .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de , .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de .postImageUrl , .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de , .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de:hover , .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de:visited , .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de:active { border:0!important; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de:active , .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf5d3f8bfc33e1248d3f8f27a6b1a50de:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Shakespeare's well known romantic comedies EssayBy the end of the play Noras use of language has completely changed because in the beginning Nora is dependent on Torvald her husband, and thinks that she needs to be told what to do and obey what he wants her to do. This is why her sentences are so short and sweet. Please, Torvald, please. Ill wrap them up in pretty paper and hang them on the tree. Theyll be so pretty. However by the end of the play Nora is more self confident, independent, more sophisticated and she has realised her mistakes, she has grown-up to become the woman she always thought she could never be. Torvald listen to me. When a wife deserts her husband, as I am deserting you, the law frees him of all obligations towards her. And in any case. I set you free. Youre not bound in any way. Youre free. Were both free on both sides: freedom. Take back your ring. Give me mine. As you can tell from the start of the play to the very end, Noras sentence length and use of words have varied alot, because she has exchanged herself from being a puppet to being the puppet master of her own life.

Penguins Essays (1060 words) - Flightless Birds, Penguins

Penguins Myopic little men in tuxedos, or highly efficient land/water animals? Recent research indicates there's more to penguins than meets the eye. If you've every wondered what it would be like to be able to see as clearly under water as you can on land, just ask the nearest penguin. Most aquatic animals are short-sighted on land. Most terrestrial animals (and that includes us) are far-sighted under water. But researchers have discovered that penguins can apparently see equally well in both environments, because of the unique structure of their eyes. Penguins have to be able to see well under water because their diet consists mainly of plankton, molluscs, crustaceans, and the inevitable fish. Through a special slowing-down of their heart rate they're able, like many other diving animals, to stay submerged long enough to search out and chase whatever catches their fancy. On dry land, it's a different story-or has been up to now. Waddling along on their flat little feet, eyes fixed intently o n the ground, penguins appear myopic, inefficient and generally out of place. In fact the reverse is true. During a recent stay on the Falkland Islands, a Canadian researcher discovered that penguins are able to recognize individuals and navigate the rocky terrain on which they live quite well. Long of body and short of leg, they probably poke their heads forward as an aid to balance. And as for looking at the ground, they're merely-like us-keeping an eye on where they're going. The human eye is adapted for aerial vision, which is why scuba divers-or even you and I in the local swimming pool-must wear goggles or a face mask to re-introduce air in front of our eyes in order to see clearly. Among vertebrates in general, the bird eye is frequently described as the most efficient. Its superior quality, combined with the fact that a large number of birds-cormorants, pelicans, seagulls, even ducks, as well as penguins-get their food from water, obviously deserved research beyond that poss ible in a controlled environment such as an aquarium or zoo. Professor Jacob Sivak of the University of Waterloo and his associate, Professor Howard Howland of Cornell University, had a chance to do that research recently. Their trip had but one purpose-to study the structure of penguins' eyes while observing their natural habitat. The Falkland Islands, off the coast of Argentina, offered this opportunity, being one the few areas outside Antarctica where penguins can be found in large numbers. Three of the 16 known species were located there: the Gentoo, which live on flat areas right off the beach; the Magellan (also called Jackass), which live in burrows; and the Rock-hoppers, which live among the rocks along the cliffs. The Rock-hoppers were by far the most common, having a population of well over 100,000. The general rule is, the smaller the penguin, the meaner the temperament, and the researchers did witness the odd fight. Their flippers may look pretty useless out of water, b ut it's not smart to play around with a penguin. Hel'll stand his ground in a face-off and if you're foolish enough to get too close, those flippers can knock you flat. Dr. Sivak and his associate, however, had little trouble. Rock-hoppers always congregate in fairly tight groups, as a defense against predatory birds such as the skua (a large seagull that thinks it's a hawk), and two more upright figures in their midst didn't seem to bother them. Standing as close to their subjects as 0.3m, the scientists used two devices: one, developed by Professor Howland, to take photographs of the penguins' eyes; the othger, developed by Dr. Sivak, to shine a series of concentric circles on the cornea and give a measurement of how reflections of objects are altered by curvature of the eye. Despite the fact all the work had to be done at night-the only time the penguins' pupils were dilated enough-the results were worth it. Comparison of the photographs with similar photos of human eyes, and st udy of the internal structure of the eyes of creatures discovered killed by seal lions, proved the scientists' theory that the penguin's eyes are the secret of its survival. In general terms, a penguin eye and a human

One Poet Two Poems Essays - Because I Could Not Stop For Death

One Poet Two Poems Essays - Because I Could Not Stop For Death One Poet Two Poems Two Poems. Two Ideas. One Author Two of Emily Dickinson's poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death and I Heard A Fly Buzz-When I Died, are both about one of life's few certainties: death. However, that is where the similarities end. Although both poems were created less than a year apart by the same poet, their ideas about what lies after death differ. In one, there appears to be life after death, but in the other there is nothing. Only a number of clues in each piece help us determine which poem believes in what. In the piece, Because I Could Not Stop For Death, we are being told the tale of a woman who is being taken away by Death. This is our first indication that this poem believes in an afterlife. In most religions, where there is a grim reaper like specter, this entity will deliver a person's soul to another place, usually a heaven or a hell. In the fifth stanza, Death and the woman pause before ...a House that seemed A Swelling of the Ground- The Roof was scarcely visible- The Cornice in the Ground- (913). Although the poem does not directly say it, it is highly probable that this grave is the woman's own. It is also possible the woman's body already rests beneath the soil in a casket. If this is at all accurate, then her spirit or soul may be the one who is looking at the house. Spirits and souls usually mean there is an afterlife involved. It isn't until the sixth and final stanza where the audience obtains conclusive evidence that Because I Could Not Stop For Death believes in an afterlife. The woman recalls how it has been ...Centuries- and yet feels shorter than the Day I first surmised the Horses' Heads were toward Eternity- (913). To the woman, it has been a few hundred years since Death visited her, but to her, it has felt like less than 24 hours. Since the body cannot live on for hundreds of years, then it must be none other then the soul who has come to the realization that so much time has passed. The final part with the horses refers to the horse drawn carriage the woman was riding in when she passed away. In those two final lines, the horses seem to be leading her into Eternity, possibly into an afterlife. It is just the exact opposite is Dickinson's other poem, I Heard A Fly Buzz-When I Died, With this particular piece of literature, the clues which point to the disbelief in an afterlife are fewer and not as blatant, but are all still present. In this poem, a woman is lying in bed with her family standing all around waiting for her eventual death. While the family is waiting for her to pass on, she herself is waiting for ...the King... (914). No, we're not talking about Elvis, but instead this King is some sort of omnipotent being, a god. Later as the woman dies, her eyes (or windows as they are referred to in the poem) fail, then she ...could not see to see- (914). When she says this, what she seems to mean is she could not see any of the afterlife or Kings she expected to be there. The woman's soul drifted off into nothingness with no afterlife to travel to. To conclude, the beliefs of the two Dickinson poems in regards to life after death differ significantly. In one, life does exist, in the other it does not. To determine which poem believes in what, one must dig through the clues in each.

The Olympus corporate scandal of 2011 Research Paper

The Olympus corporate scandal of 2011 - Research Paper Example From the research it can be comprehended that a corporate body has a distinct legal status and has characteristics and liabilities that are separate from those of its members. It has the right to exist for indefinite period of time. New corporations are created after having them registered and their main purpose is to conduct business and commerce. A corporate body can be owned by two or more individuals who form a partnership with an agreement among themselves to share profits and losses in a pre-determined ratio. A partner can have limited or unlimited liability. A limited liability partner is one whose responsibility for company’s debts is limited only to the amount of his capital contribution. Unlimited liability means when a company is declared bankrupt, then the partner’s personal assets can be seized to clear the debts. All corporate bodies have some common purposes. A corporation garners the interests and funds of its owners to serve the interests of the public. It shall ensure fair profits for its partners but not by endangering the stake of other shareholders. Every corporate body needs to satisfy the needs of the current generation and at the same time must have an insight into the needs of future generations. A corporate body must perform its activities in a legal and ethical manner. The success of a corporate body depends mostly upon the performance of its management personnel. The management should apply proper strategy and innovations in their performance to bring in more profits on a sustained basis for the organisation by improving the performance of the employees and also by encouraging efficient contribution by those who contribute. Performance management works in combination with corporate management in service

In your OWN words, prepare a Microsoft Word report to provide evidence Essay

In your OWN words, prepare a Microsoft Word report to provide evidence of advanced knowledge of a concept taught in one of week - Essay Example But what is the definition of electronic commerce? One definition of electronic commerce states that it is the use of computer networks in business, with the aim of increasing profitability and increasing market share and brand reach (Watson et al. 2008). Another definition of electronic commerce states that it is any form of business transaction done in the internet (Department of Trade and Economic Development – Government of South Australia n.d.). There may be a lot of varying definitions, but most of these definitions boil down to one common theme: the use of the internet in conducting business transactions, as opposed to physical contact in doing business. One of the main reasons why electronic commerce has already been one of the most popular choices for many businesses is because of the fact that electronic commerce has been able to improve organizational efficiency and other logistical problems in conducting business. ... on logistical expenses, especially on marketing their respective products, due to the fact that maintaining a website and investing on search engine optimization services to reach out on prospective customers online is more cost-effective, as compared to physically distributing marketing tools to customers or hiring advertising firms to advertise on tri-media. In this case, lessening such costs will surely increase the profitability of any business. In addition, by using electronic commerce, clients can now have much more convenience in giving feedbacks to the goods and services that they receive, especially through online surveys that online businesses actually uses. This mechanism will surely help businesses in evaluating their own performances and giving much better services to clients. In terms of gaining a larger market share, the best thing about electronic commerce is that it has the ability to reach out to millions of customers worldwide in just a matter of seconds. This woul d be virtually impossible for other businesses who are not engaged in electronic commerce. In addition, it is important to take note that consumers nowadays are more comfortable in looking for goods and services through the internet, given its speed, reliability, and the convenience that it offers to consumers. Also, because electronic commerce relies much on the internet, it would be able to deliver services to clients at a much faster pace than usual. Take note that consumers nowadays can now do their shopping in the comfort of their own homes, and that companies can now provide the specific needs of customers in just a matter of clicks, without bothering them to go physically into the merchandising stores of companies. This will surely make businesses deliver their goods and services

From classical ballet to contemporary ballet

From classical ballet to contemporary ballet From Classical Ballet to Contemporary Ballet Ballet originally emerged in the late 15th century in the Renaissance court of Italy. Then, it was a dance interpretation of fencing.   Ballet was further developed and popularized in the French Courts in the 17th century. From court ballet to modern ballet, the dance techniques and practice has evolved throughout the years. Contemporary Ballet now incorporates classical ballet with modern dance techniques such as floor work and turn-in of the legs. (wikipedia, par 9) Ballet shows now focus more on the plot as compared to the 17th century, where the focus was the intertwine of music and poetry. It had also often included singing. 17th Century Ballet had minimal plot because Ballets were designed principally for the entertainment of the aristocracy, hence rich costumes, scenery, and elaborate stage effects were emphasized. In the 19th century, there was an increase in interest among the public, and Ballets such as Swan Lake (1876), Sleeping Beauty (1890), and The Nutcracker (18 92) were produced. There was an influence of jazz, jazz rhythms and modern dance at that time, originating in the USA, hence greater body expressions. Today, Ballet is an internationally practiced and appreciated dance, with many dance school dedicated to the teaching of Ballet, including prominent schools such as the royal ballet school and many other small private dance centres. These schools train Ballet dancers from young and even adults who have never learned Ballet as a child are able to practice due to the large amount of adult Ballet classes for beginners. For those who are not striving to be a professional Ballet dance, practicing Ballet is a form of sport which teaches excellent posture and trains you to be graceful and disciplined. From the increase in Ballet schools, dancers and shows for the public, it can be concluded that one of the most significant change in the practice of Ballet, would be the accessibility of Ballet. In the 17th century, ballet was performed in the royal courts. It was a dance that was rather exclusive for the royals and the high society. Many commoners would not have the luxury to attend Ballet performances. However, as Ballet developed, it became more popular and much appreciated and watched by various people. Today, Ballets are relatively inexpensive to watch, including well know Ballets such as Swan Lake and the Nutcracker being some of the most famous ballets that are widely watched even to those who have little knowledge about dance or do not come from well off family backgrounds. Ballet is viewed as a classical performance that is available for anyone. What has not changed about Ballet is that Ballet is still considered a high culture performance art, despite the fact that it is one of the most practiced and watched dances by many from various social status and education level. Youve got to attend Ballet performances in order to be â€Å"cultured†. Also, Ballet is still very female dominant in the eyes of the public. This is to say that parents would tend to send their daughters to Ballet classes rather than sons. However, this is not to say there are few males Ballet dancers. Ballet now being so much more accessible, in level with other dance forms such as hip hip and jazz, it is no longer a dance for the rich and privilege.

From Western to Asian Environmental Ethics Essay examples -- Asia Reli

The 20th century may be considered the ultimate expression of Western ideals and philosophy: "civilized" humanity's attempt to dominate "uncivilized" peoples and nature. The 21st century soberingly proclaims the shortsightedness and ultimate unsustainability of this philosophy. This paper shows the limitations of a modern Western world-view, and the practical applicability of ideas to be found in Asian philosophies. In outline, the contrast may be portrayed by the following overgeneralizations: (1) From a linear to a cyclical world view; (2) from divine salvation to karmic necessity; (3) from human dominion over nature to human place within nature; (4) from the perfectibility of humanity and the world through science; (5) from atomistic mechanistic individualism to organic interdependence; (6) from competition to cooperation; (7) from glorification of wealth to respect for humanhood; (8) from absolute cultural values to necessary common values. Each of these attitudes is examined in light of what we now know about the world in the 21st century, as Asian philosophy is found applicable to address future problems. (1) From a linear to a cyclical worldview The Judaeo-Christian-Islamic world-view epitomizes linearity. God creates the world out of nothing and destroys it when he pleases; the world has a beginning and an end. Moreover, the beginning and end of the world are within human memory and anticipation; humans trace their lineage back to Adam and anticipate the end of the world. Recent Christians may argue for a more ancient beginning in the Big Bang, but seem no less convinced of the temporality and linearity of the human project. Humans are born from nothing, live only once on this world, and then return to dust or are j... ...f the earth. If the human project is to be maintained more than a few generations into the future, considerations of population control, biological diversity, sustainability of technologies, and responsibility to future generations become unavoidable. These depend not on cultural tastes or traditions; they become minimum prerequisites for human continuity. The shrinking of the globe and the foreshortening of history demand new common values, not based on the power of one group over another, but based on a consciousness of our organic interlinking with each other. Stripped of their cultural paraphernalia and chauvinisms, some Western as well as Asian religious philosophies may already hold this ideal, but one need not be religious to understand and espouse it. The survival of the planet as we know it demands nothing less than human cooperation in this project. Project Assignment Essay

Planning is critical phase in a project life cycle. Although that is the case project control is pivotal and it goes through the project phase. Without proper project control in any project, failure possibilities are fairly high in such project. The intention of scope management is to define and outline the intention of any project. Scope management is defined by the PMBOK as; ‘†¦.. the processes required to ensure that the project includes all the work required, and only the work only the work required, to complete the project successfully. It is primarily concerned with defining and controlling what is or not included in the project.’ The project scope sets the stage for developing a project plan. It clearly states the project’s objectives and deliverables. Scope definition provides an administrative plan that is used to develop your operational plan, i.e. the plan for how you are going to run the project. Scope definition should be as brief as possible, but complete. Poorly defined scope leads to project failure. The development of the scope must involve the project manager, sponsors, performing organisations and beneficiaries. Our organisation like any other company before initiating a project will follow the following ways in designing scope management: âž ¢ Scope planning: PMBOK defines this stage as ‘the process of developing a written scope statement as the basis for future project including, in particular, the criteria used to determine if the project or phase has been completed successfully.’ In scope planning issues that refers to schedule, cost timelines and boundaries will be outlined in this phase. âž ¢ Scope definition: The PMBOK defines scope as; ’subdividing the major project deliverables into smaller, more manageable components’. In order to be clear of the intention of any project, project must be defined clearly in order to operate smoothly. If the scope of the project is not clearly defined the project manager will suffer the consequences of possibilities of project failure and the conflict that will arise between him or her and client or the project sponsor. In relation to the WBS the scope will be divided in work packages. âž ¢ Scope verification: during the initiation phase and scope planning, stakeholders and the client must verify the scope in order to approve the scope of the intended project. Scope verification is one of the important tools of project planning as the project cannot go ahead until stakeholders verify it. For an example during the initial phase once the project manager presents the feasibility study to the stakeholders their inputs and approval is key to the project. 1. WBS: Work break down structure The work break down structure (WBS) was developed in the 1960’s as the tool to enhance project planning. WBS is in a hierarchal form where work packages are presented either in graphical box or text indent. Burke (2010:128) mentions the main components of WBS as the following: ââ€" ª Structure ââ€" ª Method of subdivision ââ€" ª Numbering or coding ââ€" ª Level of detail ââ€" ª Number of WBS levels ââ€" ª Roll up ââ€" ª Integrating the WBS to assign responsibility Once the scope and deliverables have been identified, the work of the project can be subdivided into smaller work elements. The outcome of this process is called the work breakdown structure. All the elements/steps that make up WBS are called work packages. It is very useful as the structure clearly points to what has to be done and in what sequence (order). It divides the work and responsibility into individual work implementation for the project by: †¢ making it possible to plan, schedule and budget; †¢ providing a framework for tracking and monitoring cost and work performance; †¢ defining communication channels; †¢ assisting in understanding and coordinating many parts of the project; †¢ pointing to problems and ensuring they are quickly addressed

Intensity of Competitive Rivalry: The threat of rivalry is relatively low. The movie rental industry is dominated by a few firms, namely Blockbuster, and Movie Gallery (which liquidated all itself in 2010). However they are in competition with other industries such as cable and satellite companies, VOD services and sites like Hulu and Amazon. 2. What forces are driving changes in the movie rental industry? Are the combined impacts of these driving forces likely to be favorable or unfavorable in term of their effects on competitive intensity and future industry proï ¬ tability? The demand for digital content is driving changes in the rental industry. Technology is shifting from a physical medium to a digital distribution system. This is likely to be beneficial because Netflix is already rooted in the digital streaming industry and would only have to adapt to minor changes in technology. 3.
